Perception and Presentation PT. II

Perception is one of many unfamiliar senses that we a Americans use on a daily basis. For example, if we see someone on the street with worn out clothes, messed up clothes and asking for spare change our perception is that this person is homeless. Based on this person's presentation we came up wth this perception. The biggest example of presentation and perception is with the media. Every time you turn on the news there is some negative or positive aspect of life that is blown out of proporion by the media. Whether we realize it or not the media plays a big role in our opinions and how we view issues. For example in the presidential election many people had their minds made up who they were going to vote for, but when the media began to expose and focus on the negative aspects of the candicates, some people changed their postion. In our society today it is very easy for us to be swayed back and forth because of opinion and presenation. That is why we must find out the truth for ourselves and not allow ourselves to be bothered by the opinions of others.

Perception through Presentation

Presentation has a great deal to do with how we as Americans interpret different ideas. For our city search we researched Miami which is known for it's warm climate and it's wild party atmosphere. It's known for being the location to meet well known celebrities and the place that hosts many award shows such as the MTV Video Music Awards.
To begin to research Miami I located the official Miami website which was actually quite boring. This may be to cover up for the perception that Miami is known for their wild party atmosphere. From there I researched the statistics and the crime rate. Miami has a population of 366,470 people which is composed of mostly Latin Americans. The crime rate has decreased from 7,880 to 6,461 over the course of five years (2000-2004).
In the Miami Herald there was an article about the three teens who were being charged with the deaths of two homeless people. Two of the teens could reciecve the death penalty because they are 18, the other teen ,17 will just be charged as as adult.
My perception of Miami wasn't influenced by this assignment. I realize that every city has it's up and downs. The official Miami website was quite boring that may be to cover up the negative aspects of the city and to keep everything under wraps.

Detroit International Jazz Festival

For my second paper in English 1020 I will be writing about theDetroit International Jazz Festival. So far it has been very interesting to write about this topic because I'm able to incorporate the informative with the descriptive which isn't as hard as it seems. Hopefully on this paper I will receive 100% on the first try so I won't have to go back and make any corrections.

Lansing Here I Come

This weekend I will be going up to Lansing for a little R&R with some of my close friends. I hope to have a good time relaxing and catching up with my friends with what's been going on in their lives. This trip will be a big stress reliever from all the work I have had to do for my algebra and chemistry classes. Wish me luck!!!!!!

Steelers Are The Champions!!!!!

They did it!!! The Pittsburgh Steelers sealed a victory at Super Bowl XL on Sunday February5,2006 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Although I really don't like professional football, this game kept me glued to the television. Mainly because Jerome Bettis is from Detroit. I read in an article from the Pittsburgh Tribune that the fans from Pittsburgh who came to the Super Bowl felt at home. I think the city of Detroit was a great host for the Super Bowl and that they did great job having activities to occupy the time of the visitors and the citizens of the city of Detroit.
